Historical Promotions and Event Management was founded in 1999, by Managing Director Rob Butler after working within archaeology and cultural heritage management since 1980. His work is distinguished by his professionalism and commitment to archaeology, cultural heritage management, historical interpretation and re-enactment, and has resulted in the establishment of three further areas of expertise; Archaeology and Heritage Management Consultancy, Heritage Film Services and Heritage Education Service the same year.
Personal Profile
Rob, has been involved in professional cultural heritage management, re-enactment and live interpretation for nearly 30 years and has worked extensively in a consultation and management role since 1994. He has published a number of excavation reports, articles and papers on archaeology, heritage management, interpretation, education and historical re-enactment.
As one of the UK’s, most experienced historical cultural event professionals, he has acted as a consultant to a number of clients on cultural heritage and tourism projects and has been instrumental in organising, directing and delivering over 600 historical events over the past decade. He has also been instrumental in raising the standards and professionalism of historical re-enactments and interpretation within cultural heritage management and film and television broadcasting for public and educational consumption.
Prior to the establishment of Historical Promotions and Event Management, Rob also worked in Germany on a number of cultural interpretation projects and has since organised events on behalf of the Government of Japan and Government of Gibraltar.
Rob, has participated in and presented seminars, conferences and organised exhibitions at both local, regional and national level for the National Trust, English Heritage, Environment Agency and DCMS on cultural heritage and interpretation.
Highlights have been numerous over the years and a selective list of these can been seen in our Client Access area. However, amongst his and Historical Promotions recent accolades have been performances for Her Majesty the Queen, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh and His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester. The company has also organised a number of historical events for the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk and Duke of Northumberland.
In 2008, Historical Promotions were voted ‘Finalist’ at the prestigious Event Awards 2008 for a Medieval Festival organised for Kettering Town Council. This followed on from a successful 2007, when the Renaissance Heritage Awards presented two awards for a live interpretation and re-enactment event organised by Rob for Kettering Manor House Museum, Northamptonshire for which he and the company are extremely proud.
He is a Member of the Institute of Field Archaeologists and Member of the Institute of Directors. His expertise was also recently acknowledged when he was appointed Member of the Association for Heritage Interpretation and a Fellow of the Institute of Business Consulting in 2007.
